Service Description

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to a systematic way of understanding, developing and giving life to characters hailing from minority or underrepresented backgrounds in an authentic and contextually-appropriate way, known as the Osura Pesuasang or Individuation Theory, a grassroots, creole/indigenous, LGBTQ+ friendly and neurodiverse theory of the human psyche developed in Singapore by sci-fi writer and Merlionsman of Singapore Kevin Martens Wong. Through the Osura, participants will be able to understand how the arc of a character of any disposition can be clearly structured and refined, and will work to develop poetry or a short story of their choice around a queer theme or queer central character of their choice that not only reflects a compelling journey of growth, maturation and complexity, but showcases, celebrates and enriches the beauty, nobility, hope and courage that comes with being queer in Singapore and Southeast Asia through effective, nuanced and thoughtful representation of queer and underrepresented perspectives and voices. This workshop is open to writers at all levels of skill, both published and unpublished, and is part of Pink Fest 2023.
